Question: What is a hydraulic nut?

Answer: A hydraulic mounting nut is a reusable tool used to assist with bearing installation.

Question: How does it work?

Answer: It contains a piston that pushes on the inner ring of the bearing as hydraulic pressure is applied, gently pushing the bearing up the tapered adapter sleeve to its final position.

As the hydraulic pressure increases, the force of the piston gently pushes the tapered bearing up the adapter taper. This causes the bearing inner bore to slightly expand, which removes the internal clearance from the bearing, creating a press fit of the inner ring to the shaft.

During mounting, the bearing clearance should be measured until you achieve the recommended mounted running clearance for the bearing size. Once the bearing is properly mounted, the HMV nut can be replaced with the standard KM nut and washer or lock clip.

Hydraulic nuts with inch threads are also available on request.

PTI includes a spanner wrench, extra O-rings seals, nylon screw or gauge retention and hydraulic plugs with each hydraulic nut purchase.
